Learn which types of music are best for meditation.
Many people who meditate like to do so using music. Listening to music while you meditate can be very relaxing. Meditation involves typically focusing on the inhalation and exhalation of your breath. Meditation music can help relax you, and you will find that you are breathing in rhythm with the music.
Classical Music
Some like to meditate to classical music. Mozart is a popular choice. So is Handel’s Water Music. It is probably best to listen to the music that you intend to meditate to before you do so, no matter its style. What some may find relaxing may bore you or set your teeth on edge. Everyone has a personal style.
Gregorian chants are also popular for meditation. Gregorian chants are done by monks and are religious in nature. They are showing love of God. Many people find Gregorian chants relaxing, and the chants can take you into deep levels of meditation. The chanting is often soft and rhythmic. If you do a prayer ritual with your meditation, Gregorian chanting can be an excellent choice.
Guided Meditation
Guided meditation CDs are also great meditation tools. A guided meditation often has music playing underneath a trained meditation teacher who leads you in a meditation. A popular guided meditation author is Belleruth Naparstek, who has created an extensive series of guided meditations for health and emotional purposes. Guided meditations can be used for many purposes.
Nature Sounds
Nature sounds can be terrific for meditation. The sound of the rain forest or a thunderstorm is very peaceful. The sounds of animals, such as during a swim with dolphins, or a walk in the forest can also be very restorative. Many people feel more relaxed when they are surrounded by nature. Using a CD with nature sounds on it can be very helpful to your meditation practice.
Chakra Music
Meditation music created especially for a chakra meditation can also be great for meditation. Caroline Myss’s Chakra Meditation Music is an ideal example. You listen to meditation music that is intended to heal and resonate with your chakra energy. The chakras are located along our spines, and each contains different emotional and physical energies.
