DIY wedding reception ideas don’t mean cheap – pile on the lavish!
Weddings and receptions can be horrendously expensive. Not everyone has that kind of money to throw around and, face it, some people are more practical and choose not to go into bankruptcy over their big day.
There are ways to cut costs without appearing to have done so. The bride, the groom, their families and friends can pitch in and provide the creativity and manpower. Where to find ideas for a DIY wedding reception? Do you have an Internet connection? Start searching.
Here are some quick fun, easy and inexpensive reception ideas for do-it-yourself brides:
Party Store Specialties
Kids aren?t the only ones who love bubbles. Purchase affordable custom photo bubble bottles in a variety of colors from a party store. At some point during the reception, let it rip! Everyone blows bubbles in tribute to the newlyweds. How festive and fun!
Your tableware can look high end but it doesn?t have to be expensive. While you are shopping for bubbles and other fun party favors, browse the tableware section. You will be surprised at the beautiful – and low cost – options in paper and plastic. Opt for something rich and eye popping such as gold and white striped paper plates. You don?t have to spend a king?s ransom to create a spectacular after wedding party.

Mason Jar Centerpieces
Mason or Ball jars are the perfect (and affordable) way to decorate the tables. Buy blue jars, which are exquisite, or clear jars, which you can easily paint or leave as is. Fill them with flowers or lights or both. Tie a raffia bow around the neck of the jar.
Or fill Mason jars with fairy lights. Hang them from tree limbs. Lights and candles create ambiance and make the venue sparkle.
Cover the Mason jar with a swatch of lace fabric. Spray paint the jar and fabric in the color of your choice. Let the paint dry, remove the lace and, bingo, you have a lacy jar. Beautiful!
Homegrown Flowers
Do you or one of your friends or family members have a flower garden? Ask if you can pick flowers and use in the colorful table containers. This cuts down on the florist?s fees. If you know you are getting married in the summer, plants flowers (or seeds) in the spring. Zinnias are a good selection for late summer weddings. The vibrant colors the flowers boasts are unparalleled. They are easy to grow from seed.
Put baby?s breath in a tall, clear elegant container, fill the container with water and a floating candle. This doesn?t cost much but looks like it does.
