Depending on who you ask, fall is the best – and most beautiful – time of year.
Vivid sunsets, the smell of fresh soups and stews, cool air, and the changing leaves make fall a season that your senses never fail to notice.
When you’re not busy picking apples, making delicious crockpot dinners, or hanging out at the pumpkin patch, spend some time enjoying the fall foliage that many of us are blessed with during this time of year. The ideas below will help folks of all ages find a few fun ways to enjoy leaves changing.
10. Burn Them
Nothing says fall has arrived like the scent of burning leaves in the air. Inhale and enjoy it as you drive around the neighborhood, or burn a few brightly colored leaves of your own. Roast some marshmallows and make yummy chocolate s’mores while you’re at it.
Skip the fire if you live in New York, though – it’s illegal to burn leaves there. Check your local municipality before starting a leaf fire, and make sure to use safety precautions.
9. Jump in Them
Remember how fun jumping in a massive pile of leaves used to be when you were a child? It’s still just as incredible.
8. Leaf Fight
It’s like dodgeball, only with leaves. Here’s a helpful hint: Wet leaves, while soggy and a bit disgusting, are easier to throw. Wear gloves if you want to keep your hands clean.
7. Decorations
Unleash your inner crafting diva and make all kinds of festive fall decorations. String a bunch of leaves on a piece of string or fishing thread and hang them around the house. Fall leaves also make beautiful autumn-themed wreaths and Thanksgiving decorations.
6. Collage
Do your craft skills leave something to be desired? Not a problem. Anybody can make a collage, even your 2-year-old. Grab some glue and construction paper and go to town.
5. Photographs
Sometimes fall foliage is breathtakingly beautiful. Grab your camera and head outside to capture the vivid red, yellow, orange, and purple leaves. Put your best fall weather photo in a beautiful picture frame and hang it above your couch.
4. Poetry
Feeling creative? Grab a notebook and sit under your favorite tree. Let the sights and scents of the vibrant fall leaves inspire you to jot down haikus, stanzas and anything else that begs to be written. Get inspiration from some of the all time great poems written about autumn. When you become famous, don’t forget about the little people.
3. Kick Them
There’s nothing more satisfying than gathering together a huge pile of leaves and giving them a swift kick with your foot. After you kick them all over your yard, grab a rake and do it again. Consider this your daily exercise.
2. Smash Them
Pick up a pile of leaves with both hands and then smash them as hard as you can. Enjoy the crinkling, crunching sound that they make. Toss the broken pieces in the air like confetti and pick up another pile.
1. Take a Seat

Sitting on the porch hurts your bottom after awhile. Create a soft, cushy chair with a pile of fall leaves. Just make sure they’re dry before you sit down.
