Top 10 Household Chores List for Summer Break

By Editorial Staff

One of the top ten house chore listsContributed by Missy Nolan, Catalogs.com Top 10 Guru

There’s just something about sunshine, fragrant flowers, and chirping birds — and summer break — that makes even the biggest slob among us (if that slob is you, it’s okay) want to clean the dusty, clutter-filled mess they call home.

Open the windows, throw on some sweats, and grab your cleaning supplies. It’s time to get your house spic and span!

Not sure what to clean first? Start with the top ten items found on my household chores list for summer break.

10. Closets

Be honest with yourself: those pants haven’t fit in 5 years, and they were a bit tight even back then. That little black dress is gorgeous, but it’s time to buy a new one in a size you actually wear. Quit keeping old clothes before you wind up starring in your own episode of Hoarders. And who wouldn’t want to add “shopping for new dresses” to their to-do list?

9. Refrigerator

The last time you cleaned your fridge out was during the spring cleaning spree you went on a year ago, and it smells like something died a slow, painful death inside. Toss that expired jam out and use a good all-purpose cleaning spray to get rid of those mysterious brown streaks. Where do they come from, anyway?

8. Windows

You haven’t seen the sun in months- and rain isn’t the culprit. Make your windows sparkle and shine with a soft cleaning cloth and some non-streak glass cleaner.

7. The VOID under your furniture

One of the top ten household chores list tips

Last year, you found 12 toys, 3 pennies, a half-eaten sandwich, a fuzzy pair of socks, and several bills you probably should have paid. And that was just under the recliner. You can only imagine the surprises you’ll find this year. Remove the large items, change to the power nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and get down on your hands and knees.

6. Carpets

One of the top ten household chores list items

You used to make people take their shoes off, but gave up on that 2 months after you moved in. Vacuum first, then attack tough stains with a steam cleaner.

5. Oven

One of the top ten household chores list items

How the heck does the oven get so dirty?! Grab your scrubbing pad and show those black carbon deposits who’s boss!

4. The washer and dryer

One of the top ten household chores list items

You were about to call the repairman and have him examine your dryer to figure out why your clothes weren’t getting very dry. Then you realized you forgot to clean out the lint tray. All year.

3. Trash cans

One of the top ten household chores list items

No matter how often you change your trash, the can still smells like last week’s dinner. Hold it hostage in the bathtub and scrub the odors away. Switch to a metal or aluminum can if a good scrubbing doesn’t seem to make it smell fresh and clean.

2. That random box in the basement

One of the top ten household chores list items

Yeah. That box. The same box you’ve promised to go through for the last 10 years.

1. Toxic friends and lovers

Now’s the perfect time to ditch that guy who always “forgets” his wallet when you go out to eat. It’s also a great time to get rid of that friend who always talks behind your back and “accidentally” made out with your last boyfriend.
