Autumn conjures up images of pumpkins, hayrides, raking leaves and apple picking. But did you ever consider creating autumn-themed mixed drinks?
The array of flavors available for autumn cocktails is staggering (and yummy). Not sure where to start? Try one of these top ten autumn cocktails the next time you want the taste of fall.
Chosen specifically for their seasonal scents and tastes, these drinks are sure to make you think of the falling leaves, cozy fires and autumn holidays. They’re also great for seasonally-themed parties (Thanksgiving in July, anyone?)
10. Appletini
The crisp taste of apples just screams autumn. Mix 2 parts of vodka and 1 part apple schnapps. Use caramel vodka instead and this becomes a Caramel-Appletini. It’s wonderful for combining the classic flavors of autumn, and a guaranteed hit at an adult Halloween cocktail event. All you need to ask is “Shaken or stirred?”
9. Mulled Wine
There are many recipes for mulled wine. If you have never tried it before don’t be intimidated; it’s just red wine that has been simmered on the stove with a variety of warm spices (think cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg), citrus slices and sometimes brandy.
Use a bold red wine that will stand up to the infusion of flavors, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Mulled wine is perfect for taking the chill off after raking leaves, taking a long walk in the crisp Fall evening with your dog, or coming home after watching your team win the football game.
8. Cranberry Liqueur
Another classic autumn cocktail, but this one doesn’t require any mixing. Pour some ruby-red cranberry liqueur in a cordial glass, pair it with a soft cheese and some buttery crackers, then enjoy it while enjoying the colors of an autumn sunset. What better way to end a fall day?
7. Ginger & Jack
There is something about ginger beer that feels like fall. Mix it with Jack Daniels for an interesting twist on Jack and Coke, or try it with rum for a winter twist on favorite summertime tropical treats.
Looking for a great mocktail idea? Mix ginger beer with raspberry and lemonade for a flavorful alchohol-free cocktail.
6. Brandy
You can drink Brandy any time of year, but it’s especially nice once the weather cools down. Be sure to have a proper snifter on hand to enjoy the delicious experience of sipping a fragrant brandy as it warms in your hand. There are few drinks more elegant and old world to enjoy on an autumn evening.
And while brandy is delicious on its own, a Brandy Alexander is another wonderful autumn choice, with its rich blend of brandy, creme de cacao and cream. It’s ideal for sipping in front of a fireplace, or relaxing with friends after a chilly autumn walk.
5. Pomegranate Martini
This popular fruit that ripens in early fall is the perfect excuse to make a tasty pomegranate martini:
2 oz citrus vodka
1/2 ozfresh lemon juice

4. Maple Cordial

3. Cinnamon Apple Shooter
Hot and sour in one tasty drink. Just mix equal parts cinnamon schnapps and apple vodka to make this classic autumn cocktail. Serve in a shot glass. You will be warm to your toes in seconds!
