The perfect cupcake frosting no baker can go wrong with

Making the perfect cupcake frosting is ridiculously simple. It’s way better than using a store bought product, only a few key ingredients are needed, and best of all, bakers are free to add their own personal touches.

Toss the Store Bought Stuff

Is anything that comes in a tub really all that yummy? The answer will be “no” once this homemade delight is created. Not loaded with preservatives like store bought frosting, a homemade version can be made with only a handful of ingredients. All frostings are caloric and fattening enough; spare oneself the further guilt by creating a cupcake topping free of ingredients that can’t be pronounced.

Tools of the Trade

Aside from the obvious measuring utensils needed, only two other kitchen tools are necessary to aid in the creation of this delicious masterpiece.

Invest in an electric mixer and a sifter. The electric mixer can be a hand or hand free one, but it is essential that it is electric. The speed of the electric mixer will allow the frosting to achieve a perfect fluff that isn’t possible when manual hand whisking.

A sifter will be especially helpful if you are working in humid weather conditions. Using this tool to sift the sugar will ensure that the final product is smooth and lump-free.

Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Arguably the most popular topping, buttercream is mouth watering and flatters many different types of cupcakes.

To frost about 12 cupcakes, the following ingredients are needed:

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

With an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar together on high, making sure to add a little bit of the sugar at a time. On a low speed, add the pinch of salt and vanilla. Add in the heavy whipping cream, slowly bringing the speed to high. Beat for 3 minutes, or until fluffy.

Creative Touches

So many things can be added to buttercream frosting to make it special. Vanilla lovers can add seeds from a vanilla bean. Chocolate lovers can add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder. Making a lemon poppy seed cupcake? Adding 1/4 cup of lemon juice to the frosting will make it extra special! Also, adding different zests, such as orange or lime, will make any cupcake frosting super refreshing.

Bakery lovers are now ready for a serious party, complete with cupcake-themed accessories.

Making the perfect cupcake is really a walk in the park. After making it, one will feel a sense of accomplishment by not using a store bought topping. Tons of time and money doesn’t need to be spent to buy tools and ingredients. Most importantly, different touches can be added to make the frosting special. The possibilities are endless!
