Motorcycle ride comfort starts with the right seat and back support
There’s nothing like riding a motorcycle. The feeling of being in the open, with the wind going through your hair is unlike anything else. And although the thrills of riding on your dream machine are great, motorcycles aren’t always the most comfortable things in the world.
On long journeys, that seat can become unbearable. With a little help from some innovative products, you can get your ride on and feel comfortable the entire time.
Seat
Motorcycle ride comfort typically begins with the right seat. After all, most of your body’s weight meets with the bike on your rear. Therefore, it is bound to feel the most discomfort if it isn’t sitting on a seat that is padded and conforms to your body. To prevent feeling pain in your posterior, place a comfortable seat cushion on your motorcycle. You’ll be able go for long, enjoyable rides without experiencing all of that discomfort in your backside.
Riding on the wrong cushion can also affect other parts of your body. For instance, your back can become quite uncomfortable if your backside is sitting in an unpleasant position for a long period of time. Sitting on a seat that not only has some padding, but suits your body, can make the rest of you feel good, too; not just your rear.
Type of Bike
The type of bike you take your cruise on also makes a difference in how comfortable your ride is.
~
Typically, touring-style bikes are often the most comfortable. The way in which they are designed makes it so your body doesn’t feel as much stress and discomfort as it would on other types of bikes. Additionally, touring bikes are also a lot smoother than other motorcycles, so you won’t feel the bumps and other imperfections in the road as much. This means your rear is spared a lot of impact, as is the rest of your body.
Talk with your motorcycle salesperson for his advice on which bike is the smoothest and most comfortable. Additionally, take the bike out on a test drive before you commit to the purchase to make sure it is comfortable and suits your body, as well as riding needs.
Helmet
A variety of motorcycle helmets are available on the market and there is sure to be one that fits you perfectly. An ill-fitting helmet is very uncomfortable and can impede your riding experience. A helmet that doesn’t fit well is also extremely unsafe, as it won’t provide you with the protection you’ll need if you are in an accident.
You can choose a helmet that covers your face and retracts with the push of a button, or you can wear a helmet that leaves your face exposed. However, if you choose the latter option, you’ll need to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the wind and bugs.
Clothing
Wearing light clothing when on your motorcycle may be comfortable and feel good against the air, but it’s extremely unsafe. If you happen to fall off of the bike, your skin won’t have any protection against the road and you could become seriously injured. Although leather and other thick fabrics may not sound comfortable, you can actually find clothing made of this material that works well on a bike.
Motorcycle ride comfort is achievable as long as you use products that are made to suit your body. Staying comfortable during your ride enhances the experience and keeps you adding miles to your ride logs.
