If you own or manage an e-commerce business, it can be hard to know how to make it work well, better, best. There are literally thousands of marketing websites and blogs, all promising “THE” answer to all of your online marketing question. And they’re all saying something different! So who do you trust?
After over a decade in SEO and social marketing, I’ve learned who knows what they’re talking about … and who’s making it up as they write. When I have a question, or want to know what’s new, these are my top ten Internet marketing blog choices. Check them out, and I promise you’ll find the answers you need to make your e-commerce program everything it can and should be.
10. Unbounce
Head to the Unbounce blog when you need solid information about landing pages, A/B testing, email marketing and conversion optimization. No fluff here. Just lots of good information, case studies and clear explanations of the nuts and bolts of making your e-commerce business work.
The world of online B2B marketing can get pushed aside for the sexier world of B2C in a lot of marketing blogs. Not so on Marketing Pilgrim. Sure, much of their advice works for consumer-focused businesses, too. But they deal with the unique challenges B2B e-commerce sites face in a way few other sites do.
For a no punches pulled SEO and online marketing blog, head over to Michael Wolf’s Grey Wolf blog. Sure, the language can get a bit rough, and it’s not as polished as some of the bigger names in the biz, but you’ll get some of the best, to-the-point advice and updates you need to know to rank, perform and convert.
If you’re an online marketing beginner, head here. If you’re a long-time pro, head here. If you want to know what Matt Cutts said about the most recent Google updates, check here. This is the mega-mall of Internet marketing blogs.
But like real-life mega-malls, it can get overwhelming. So use it as a part of your learning resources…but don’t neglect the specialty blogs in the process.
6. Mashable
If you’re trying to make sense of the social media side of online marketing, Mashable is a great resource. Part newsfeed, part blog, they do an amazing job of gathering the information you need to make advertising and engagement decisions for your business’ social media presence.
No matter what online channels you’re using, this blog will have the information you need. Check out their PPC, Analytics, SEO and other streams for the answers to all kinds of Internet business questions you didn’t even know you should ask … but really should know.
4. Hubspot
Although the sheer volume of posts can feel overwhelming (they publish an average of 12 posts each week), it’s worth the effort to read and digest everything they offers.
This is the place to look for information about link building, site structure, and content marketing.
3. SEOMoz
Brought to you by the same people who run one of the best SEO monitoring and management tools out there, the SEO MOZ blog is one of my favorite go-to sources for information on Google, blips and speed bumps in the SEO world, and just plain solid advice.
2. BlueGlass
The people on board at Blue Glass really know their stuff when it comes to online marketing, SEO and SEM. So it’s only logical that their blog should feature some of the best advice out there for internet marketers. If you’re a marketing beginner, check it out for basic how-to’s. And if you’re a pro, make sure you read their materials for advanced SEO’s and social media users.
1. Copyblogger
When it comes to leading advice for the leading edge of online marketing, I have to say the Copyblogger blog is one of the very best. Head here for trustworthy advice on content marketing, interactive marketing and real-world samples of what works (and what does not.)
