Knowing how to make cake batter makes life a bit sweeter
You can’t make delicious cake unless you have a delicious batter. The batter is essentially the base and building blocks of the cake, and is basically the liquid version of the spongy and moist finished product.
Fortunately, making the base isn’t difficult and is quite enjoyable. Once you know how to make cake batter, you likely won’t be able to stop.
Choosing Your Ingredients
The saying “you get what you pay for” is a popular cliche that has been around for a while because it is true. When you pay next to nothing for food, it is probably safe to assume a few things. First, the food probably won’t taste all that good. Second, the cuisine is likely not healthy, and third, the ingredients that were used to make the product were inexpensive and therefore, likely low in quality.

The ingredients you use are reflected in the overall taste of the finished product. Therefore, you’ll want to use the highest quality ingredients you can. Unfortunately, this also means they will probably be the most expensive ingredients, but it will be worth it in the end. For example, if you are looking for chocolate, go with products that are made with premium cocoa. You’ll probably be amazed at just how much better your food tastes when you pay attention to what you are making it with.
Old-Fashioned Cake Batter
Remember that rich, yet light-as-air treat your grandmom used to make? Well, if she didn’t, this is what she should have made. This old-fashioned recipe is simple, but is bursting with flavor and tradition.
To make, mix 1/2 cup of vegetable shortening, two cups of all-purpose flour and 1 1/2 cups of sugar together. Use a fork to combine the ingredients. Stop when you are left with clumps that look like pebbles.
Add four eggs, one cup of milk and 1 tsp. of vanilla to the mixture and beat well. You should be left with a creamy batter. Pour half of the mixture in one greased and floured 9-inch cake pan and the remaining half in another greased and floured 9-inch pan.
Set the pans in a 350-degree oven for 25 minutes. Place a toothpick in the cakes when you suspect they are completed cooking to ensure they are done. If the toothpick comes out clean, they are likely done.
The icing you choose to use depends on your taste. Both chocolate and vanilla icings work well with this cake.
To ice, set one of the cakes one turning cake pedestal. Pour some of the icing on top of the cake and use a spatula to make the layer smooth. Carefully place the other cake on top and begin to spread the icing on the sides of the cakes, then place the icing on top of the cake.
Your dessert is now ready to be enjoyed.
Blueberry or Peach Batter
Cake can become healthy if there’s fruit involved, right? Maybe that’s wishful thinking, but it will increase the sweetness and overall taste of the treat.
This recipe allows you to choose either blueberry or peach to add; whichever you would prefer. To make, place 1 1/2 cups of flour, one cup of sugar and 1 1/2 tsp. of baking powder in a bowl together and mix well.
Now add 3/4 cup of milk and four tbsp. of butter to the ingredients and mix well. When the mixture becomes smooth and creamy, you are done.
Grease a 8-inch square cake pan and pour two cups of blueberries inside. Squirt the juice of one lemon over top of the fruit. Doing so adds a touch of acidic brightness to the fruit, as well as the entire dish.
If you would rather use peaches, pour one can of peaches into the pan, then sprinkle a few drops of almond extract over top instead of lemon.
Pour the batter over the fruit, then mix together one cup of sugar, 1 tbsp. of cornstarch and 1/4 tsp. of salt, and sprinkle that over top. Now pour one cup of boiling water over everything.
Bake in a 350-degree oven for one hour, or until the cake is done. Using icing is up to you; however, this treat is amazing as is.
Knowing how to make a cake batter leaves you with a variety of options when it comes to making sweet treats.
