Microwave Corn on the Cob is quick, easy and delicious. Corn is one of the few things that actually works better in the microwave! There are a few different ways of cooking corn on the cob in the microwave, but I am going to show you the easiest and fastest one. Follow along as I cook corn on the cob in the microwave!
First things first. You can clean up your ears if you like. I cut the silk at the end so it’s not quite so messy.
Soaking is a must for microwaved corn on the cob! Find a container large enough to contain the corn and fill it with water. Submerge the corn completely. They will float, so you may have to weigh them down with something. Your corn on the cob should soak for at least half an hour prior to microwaving. Then, remove the corn from the water and pour out the excess. Place the corn on a microwave safe plate and place into the microwave. The cooking time will vary from microwave to microwave.; generally, it takes 7 minutes for one ear of corn and 8 minutes for two. If your microwave does not have an automatic turntable, turn the plate half way through cooking. Test the corn to see if it is done; if not, return to microwave. (Note: your microwave may have a cookbook that gives you approximate cooking times.) Be careful when taking corn out of microwave; the corn will be very, very hot. Use tongs or oven mitt.
Either let the corn sit for 10-15 minutes to cool before shucking or shuck in the sink under cool running water. The silk should come right off. Add whatever you like: Salt? Pepper? Butter? Even grated cheese is good.

Grilled corn on the cob
Grilling corn on the cob is much easier than most people think. Just follow these simple directions and you’ll learn how to cook corn on the cob on your grill: First, clean that corn! Cut off excess silk hanging from the end and remove loose husk. Completely submerse all of the corn you will be cooking under water. This will provide extra moisture for cooking. Let the ears of corn soak for at least 15 minutes prior to cooking. While your corn is soaking, prepare the grill. Heap enough charcoal to evenly cover the bottom grate into a pile in the center. Soak the charcoal with charcoal lighter fluid and light. ~Let it burn until the briquettes are lightly coated with gray ash. Once this happens, the flames should be down and you are ready to cook.
Place the cooking grate onto the grill Remove the corn from the water and pour out any excess. Place the corn on the grill… and cover. (Turn frequently)
If you are using a gas grill, keep the heat on med-high and turn the ears every 5 minutes. If you don’t turn them enough, the corn will char. The ears will turn brown and might even catch on fire – this is fine, let them cook. Just be sure to turn them often. The water that you soaked them in is steaming them inside the husks. After you do this a couple of times you will get a feel for the right appearance.
Remove the corn from the grill with tongs, it’s very hot! Grasping one end with a dish towel, peel the silk and leaves from the top down (like a banana). They should all come off in one piece. Ashes will get on the corn, this is ok.
If the corn is too hot to handle, do this part in the sink under warm running water. Once you’ve removed most of the silk, rinse the corn under warm running water and any excess ash and silk should wash right off.
Many people like to melt the butter first and mix in garlic and other spices…or, just stick to salt and butter. Whatever you like!
