Healthy Easter baskets for kids

Enjoy healthy Easter baskets.

Enjoy healthy Easter baskets.

Easter is just around the corner and we all know what that means: Easter baskets filled to the brim with yummy goodies for our kids! But today there is a lot of concern about being healthy – and this extends to giving your kid a special treat. How can you make an Easter basket healthy?

There are a variety of things you can do to make your children’s Easter basket full of healthy goodies. An important tip to keep in mind is to select healthy goodies that you know your kid will enjoy and appreciate. Remember that an Easter basket is always and still should be a time to treat your kid. This is really not the best time to push a different type of healthy food on your child. If you do this, they will only remember that their Easter basket was filled with something strange they didn’t like.

Here are some tips for creating a healthy Easter basket. These tips will help you create a great healthy Easter basket that your child will love!

Add Fruit. Many kids actually enjoy fruit. Do you remember the Peanuts cartoon where the Peanuts gang goes trick-or-treating and Charlie Brown receives rocks instead of candy? You don’t want your child to have that feeling. Fruits should be sweet to eat and fun to grab. Great fruits for most children include grapes, bananas, pears, oranges, apples or other sweet fruits in season.

Think Stuffed Animal. A great addition to a healthy Easter basket is a stuffed animal. Fortunately there are so many cute rabbits and chicks that come out just in time for the season. But remember, if your child has a special favorite animal, consider getting that animal instead. If your child just loves polar bears, then think about getting them one of these instead of a rabbit. A stuffed animal is so much better than a chocolate bunny because a chocolate bunny is gone in mere minutes, but a stuffed rabbit is around for years and years.

Think Easter Activity. For many families, Easter is a day when the whole family gathers together. What a great idea to give your kid an activity to do with other kids in his or her Easter basket! This would keep them happily occupied while the lamb or ham was cooking. Think of something age appropriate and whether or not you want your kids to be doing something inside or outside of the home.

Think Weekend Activity. Most times for Easter we wind up with a weekend off. Many children have Easter Monday off from school. Why not give your child something fun that they can look forward to doing on Easter Monday in their Easter baskets? Inexpensive things to do include going roller skating at the local rink or seeing a popular movie. Select a fun activity you know they will want to do. This is a great idea and will give them something to look forward to.

Add Nuts. Many kids love nuts. Please note: some kids do have peanut allergies. Please check to be sure that your child does not have peanut allergies before adding nuts to their basket. Nuts can be a special treat. Remember that nuts are good for you but are very high in fat, so they should be consumed in small quantities. Cashews, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts and macadamia nuts are all unique and different and would be a fun treat for a child to see in their Easter basket.

Add Bubblegum. Sugarless bubblegum is lots of fun – and many children have fun blowing big, big, big bubbles! This can be a great idea to add to your kid’s Easter basket.

As you can see, it is easy to create a healthy Easter basket for your kid. Children love healthy Easter baskets that are fun ? and good for them too!
