Ideas for a fun and unique dinner party
Dinner parties are a lot of work to execute, but if you?re up for the challenge, they are a fun way to spend time with friends and enjoy great food. Here are several creative dinner party ideas!
Hawaaian Luau
A Hawaiian-themed party is sure to be a blast, especially during the summer. You can ask your guests to come dressed in hula skirts, tropical prints, and other Hawaiian-themed clothing. Upon arrival, you can place leis around your guests? necks. For drinks, you can fill up drink dispensers with fruit drinks such as sangria, punch, juices, and more.
For the meal, you can cook beef or chicken kebabs with fruit, such as pineapple, in between the meat pieces. You could also serve Hawaiian pizza or fresh grilled fish. You can also put out a bowl of fresh tropical fruit such as papayas, mangoes, and pineapple. You could also serve ice cream in coconut halves.
Progressive Dinner
Are you tired of the same old traditional dinner party? Do you want to have a dinner party but are concerned about cooking so much food? You should have a progressive dinner!
A progressive dinner party is basically a traveling party. It starts at one house, where you eat the first course. You then go to a second house for the second house, a third house for the third course, and so on. This spreads out the cooking duties out across several people, so one person doesn?t have to do all the work. It allows the guests to spend time in several different homes and it also adds a fun element of adventure to the evening. It doesn’t make sense if the homes are spread far across town, but if you have several friends who live close by, a progressive dinner is a fun way to mix up the dinner party. You could do progressive dinners with friends once a month or every other month, and each time, you can rotate who cooks each dish.
Murder Mystery Dinner
For a creative and fun evening, throw a murder mystery dinner. Some theater groups have these that you can attend, but there is no reason why you can?t throw your own! Just do a search online for murder mystery dinner party games, and you can purchase a variety of party kits.
They usually come with a guide for the host, booklets for each character, invitations, nametags, evidence, and some have scripts (others do not). While it may sound slightly morbid, these types of parties are very unique and a great way to get your guests to interact. If you are too busy trying to set up the murder mystery game, consider cooking quick and simple recipes or having food catered instead of cooking the dinner.
Potluck Dinner
Dinner parties are intimidating to some people because of all the cooking involved. Multiple courses for a large group of people is a lot of work, especially if you do not cook often. One way to remove some stress for the host is to have a potluck dinner. In this type of dinner party, all of the guests bring a different dish. This not only means less work for the person hosting, but it also adds much more variety to the meal.
When you send out your invite, let your guests notify you which type of food they would like to bring, or you assign food types to certain people (appetizer, dessert, vegetable, salad, etc.). This will make sure that everyone doesn’t show up with the same type of dis and ensures that all meal courses are covered. Best of all, guests usually take their dishes home with them, so there is also less cleaning to do when you are hosting!
