A list of book websites for kids can help parents inspire a lifetime of reading

As a parent, getting your child to read can be a bit of a challenge. That challenge has grown even bigger with the number of different ways that kids can access television and video games through smartphones, tablets, computers and everything in between. This is one of the reasons it is more important than ever that we get our kids to embrace reading at an early age.

For most kids, if we can get them to enjoy sitting down with a good book when they are young, that is a trait they will carry through adolescence and into adulthood. So how do we get them to adopt reading at an early age?

Luckily for most parents there are a couple of different websites that will come to our aid and will help us find the books that our kids love at the push of a button. There are also some book websites for kids that stand out from the pack when it comes to specific titles and categories.

There are plenty of obvious places you can go like Barnes and Noble or other huge book store websites, but for the best collection of the most beloved books there are a couple of sites you simply have to try out.

Highlights

Highlights is actually known as a very good children’s magazine company, but the website also has a huge selection of children’s books that provide more than just a story to read. These books will actually provide a ton of different activities that your kids can while away the hours doing. This company has been around for years and they have certainly nailed down the kind of books and activities that kids love. ~

Scholastic

Scholastic is yet another kids books company that has been around for a long, long time. It seems as if this is one of those companies that has been around since the beginning of kids books in general because they have made such a name for themselves.

The sign of a truly successful company is one that can operate a website that allows the company to change with the times. With tablets and smartphones becoming a larger part of our lives, Scholastic has managed to embrace mobile applications with the Storia eReader application. By doing this, Scholastic is making sure that the kids who have already moved beyond those “boring old books” will still find reading to be a fun pastime.

Random House

It’s one of the most well known publishing houses in the country so it really shouldn’t be a huge surprise that they have quite the collection of children’s books for sale. If your kids have a favorite book series that they just love to read, it is a pretty good bet that you can get the next book in that series from Random House.

Junie B. Jones, Thomas and Friends and the whole line of Richard Scarry books are offered up on the at Random House. While it shouldn’t be surprising just how many of the classic books can be ordered off the site, its a little intimidating seeing just how completely Random House has managed to all but corner the market when it comes to these selections.

There are other sites where you can find a good children’s book. Amazon has an entire collection of Children’s books and just like Barnes and Noble you can get those books for your Kindle or Nook so that kids can combine their love of electronics with their love of literature. And, don’t forget your local library, where the youth department should become a familiar stop on your family’s list of weekend errands.

Still, there is something about going to the source, of these three websites seem like they are the ones you should always hit first. These are the companies that know a little more about children’s books, whether for storytime or for activities the way other websites can’t know.
